Tonight, as I was reading an email sent to me by a friend, a really weird set of ideas popped into my head.
As I am sure many of you are aware, many theories about the proximity to the singularity at the center of a black hole involve conceptual frameworks in which the laws of physics as we know them break down. One example is the concept that time becomes space like and space becomes time like. Another example is the possible existence of a froth like coruscation of violently fluctuating space time undulations and random discontinuities within the integrity of cause and effect near the singularity.
Note also, as I am sure you are aware, that for super massive black holes that are rapidly rotating, the center of the black hole is not a point like singularity, but rather, there supposedly exists a rotating ring wherein the space time violence in the center of the ring or black hole is essentially non-existent due to the much reduced level of random space time distortion associated with the smoothed out nature of the extended ring in comparison to the otherwise humongous density of the point like singularity.
For super massive rapidly rotating black holes, the rotating ring like structure within the center of the black hole might make an ideal doorway for even a very large starship to a cosmically distant location in our universe, or such a location that is located in the distant past or the distant future, or within another universe altogether. Note that depending on the mass of the object falling into the black hole, its geometric shape, the trajectory of the infaling object with respect to the axis of rotation of the central rotating ring, the electrical and/or magnetic charge of the infalling object and other electrodynamic fields emitted by the object, etc., the flight path of the ship as it passes through the ring might take it anywhere from distant locations in space time within our observable universe to locations within our universe but far outside the 13.73 billion year light cone relative to where the black hole is located.
The really crazy idea that occurred to me is one involving a concept in which the subject black hole is small, rotating or not, and if super massive, non-rotating or rotating at a lower velocity such that the ring inside of such a rotating black-hole would be minimal in radius. According to this idea, just as space becomes time like and time becomes space like as one approaches the center of such a black hole, as one approaches the center even more closely than the distance at which space becomes time like and time becomes space like, perhaps one enters a region in which mass-energy or mattergy becomes space-like, time-like, or space-time like and space, time, or space-time becomes mass-energy-like or mattergy-like. Such an extra transformative symmetry in fundamental physical parameters might permit the unification of not only space and time but also that of space-time and mattergy or space-time-mattergy.
A similar concept would involve the notion that space and time and electric charge might undergo a analogous symmetric transforming operation. In this case, space, time, or space time would become electric charge like and electric charge would become space, time, or space time like.
Yet another transformative symmetry would involve the concept that space-time-mattergy becomes electric charge like and electrical charge becomes space-time-mattergy like.
Yet another concept is a symmetry where mattergy becomes electric charge-like and electric charge becomes mattergy-like.
And then there is the concept that space become time like and time becomes space like, while space also becomes mattergylike and space becomes electric charge like in a manner such the the mattergylikeness of space and the electric charge like nature of space are two different states of space. An analogous example would be the existence of both a spin-up state and a spin down state simultaneously within a qubit formed by a single particle such as an electron within a quantum computer.
One can form the set of analogous transformative operations from the standpoint of lexicography involving space, time, mass, energy, mattergy, electrical charge, strong or color force charge as in the realm of quarks and gluons in QCD, momentum, magnetic charge, flavor also as in the realm of QCD, etc.; possibly for every fundamental aspect within the makeup of our universe. This set of transformative operations may include all possible orderings or permutations within such fundamental physical aspects. Thus, perhaps an ultimate unifying theory of evergything physical within our universe may possibly be waiting discovery within the theoretical, mathematical, and/or philosophical study of such extreme conditions within black holes.
It has been suggested, contrary to most established convention regarding quantum mechanics, that perhaps their are hidden quantum variables after all. Such hidden variables would be a finer level of physical parameters, laws, constants of nature etc, by which fundamental quantum mechanical variables are composed such as quantum spin number, polarity of a particle or matter wave, etc.
Another way of looking at the possibility of hidden quantum variables is to suggest that fundamental aspects of the individual mathematical components that represent the wave function of a particle have a reified substructure or sub-composition. For example, the fundamental function components in a Fourier Series representation of a arbitrary waveform that can be represented by such would have an reified analogue in nature by which these would be fundamental components would be constructed by, composed of, or otherwise defined by a sub-structure or composivity. It might even be the case that these would be hidden quantum variables have yet a further level of composivity or substructure that is reified; perhaps and so on in a never ending level of hierarchies. Higher dimensional analogues of Fourier Series and Fourier Transforms such as Spherical Harmonic Functions, Bessel Functions, and other series representations of objects in 2-D space through infinite-D space can also be represented by higher dimensional analogues of Fourier Series. The 3-D Spherical Harmonic Functions I just referred to above were already well in use to describe the electron orbital quantum mechanics of atoms by the early part of the 20th Century.
Thus, perhaps discerning the nature of space-time distortion close to but not in an immediately adjacent relationship to the singularity of a black hole may only be just the beginning of an eternity of human discovery of the full scope physical reality.
The Theory of Chaotic Inflation proposes that there exist and ensemble, perhaps an infinite number of universes or Big Bangs that are continually branching off from our universe every finite time step. Accordingly, our universe may be just one such baby universe that developed and branched off from a parent universe wherein our parent universe was formed from a grandparent universe and perhaps so-on ad infinitum. Each baby universe that forms from our universe or any other universe gives rise to a infinite succession of child universes, grandchild universes, great grand child universe on ad infinitum. Each such child universe is not detected by nor is it harmful to the parent universe, at least not in the great majority of cases simply because such baby universes would become casually and thermodynamically decoupled from the parent universe within one Planck Time unit of the initial start of formation of the baby universes. Note that the Planck Time unit is very small indeed, ~ 10 EXP – 43 second.
Each multi verse or omni verse would be a separate eternal lineage of universes forming an ever growing fractal tree thus the term Chaotic Inflationary Theory used to describe such a possibility. Moreover there may exist an infinite and ever growing set of casually and thermodynamically decoupled fractal verses or multiverses. There may exist yet another level or hierarchy beyond the distinction between the possible existence of the contents of a given fractal verse and the ever growing set of fractal verses. In fact, there may exist several, many, an ensemble of, or an infinite number of such hierarchical levels.
Note that each universe or baby universe within the Theory of Chaotic Inflation would have its unique physical laws, relative strengths of the fundamental forces within, values of the fundamental physical constants within etc.. Some such baby universes would be identical to our own, many more would have slightly differing physical laws, relative strengths of the fundamental forces within, values of the fundamental physical constants within etc., and even more would be radically different from our universe.
Even if such a theory describes the overall physical cosmos in which we live, we need not loose faith in a GOD who is entirely separate and transcendent of all creation yet which created or started the entire physical cosmos and who maintains the cosmos in being.
What is even more significant, is what I believe to be the possible creation by GOD of innumerable casually, ontologically, existentially, and accident-wise completely decoupled and unrelated cosmos for which we can never have access to except in terms of knowledge about such given to us by GOD, perhaps if only in Heaven after the final Resurrection at the end of time. I am suggesting that these additional cosmoses, if GOD created them, fall completely outside the scope of the Theory of Chaotic Inflation and that we may only know about such cosmoses upon meeting GOD in Heaven. Perhaps we may even have to wait until the End of Time at the Final Resurrection of the Dead to learn about such completely non-coupled cosmoses.
In short, we may have all eternity to learn about the scope of GODs creative work and the rational and/or spiritual creatures he has created.
This universe in which we live, this Milky Way Galaxy (which is only a tiny portion of our visible universe) and which may contain other technologically advanced civilizations, some of which by certain accounts, may have visited Earth in the past, or even continually during the modern era in a covert manner perhaps associated with at least some of the observed UFOs, may be just an infinitesimal drop in the infinite cosmos in which we live. This perhaps infinite cosmos may be just one such cosmos in an un definably large infinite cardinality of completely mysterious and completely decoupled cosmoses.
The next clear night at which you and your spouse, you and your kids, or you in your close friend(s) fell edgy or feel like arguing, take a ride out into a dark location within the country side with your significant others and look up into the incomprehensibly vast blackness of just our universe alone. Then realize the whole eternity of exploration and fun that awaits you and your families. This should help put things in perspective.
Part of my interested in astronomy, physics, the future of manned space flight, and cosmology is of a profoundly spiritual nature. When I contemplate the immeasurable size of GODs creative works, I am in awe. When I contemplate the Eternal GOD, in HIS THREE PERSONS, I realize that what we Christians have been given to know about GOD by Faith and Revelation may just simply be as much as a limited view of GOD compared to what GOD really is as our current understanding of the cosmos is limited compared to the full scope of GODs creative work now and into eternity.
I hope this email is not viewed to be patronizing, but rather as a rallying point in anticipation of a future Eternity of not only leaning about our cosmos, any other cosmoses, but also about the wonders of OUR SOULS, the SOULS of our LOVED ONES and FRIENDS, and ultimately about GOD HIMSELF.
